Dramatically Different Pilot
Turns out, that the original pilot was very different than the Gilligan’s Island we know and love. For starters, there were different characters. Also, the women were secretaries and a high school teacher. In fact, the network thought that this dramatically different pilot may confuse fans, so they did not re-broadcast it until they figured audiences could handle these changes, which was in 1992.

Two Cartoons
One trick to staying relevant in the 60’s and 70’s was to transform shows into cartoons and have cartoon spinoffs. So, you may recall that Gilligan’s Island also jumped in on this trend. Gilligan’s Island made two cartoons. In classic cartoon form was the one Gilligan’s Island and the other was set in outer space, Gilligan’s Planet.
