Cheapskate
On the show, Jim Backus played big spender, millionaire Mr. Howell. However, Backus was the extreme opposite in that respect. Everyone knew him to be a total cheapskate. Many stories about the crew going to out for a meal involve Backus accidentally, “forgetting his wallet,” therefore, forcing other Gilligan’s cast members to pay for him. Apparently, he did this so much that the whole cast and crew teased him about this habit.

Apparently, during the filming of the show, Tina Louise made the whole cast and crew make many exceptions for her. Perhaps, this is because she felt misled about her role on the show. Her agent had represented the role to Louise as a movie star on a castaway island. In fact, she had no clue the show would not revolve around her exploits.
