The Real Lagoon

More on that lagoon…it was specifically constructed for CBS’s Gilligan’s Island on CBS’ Studio City lot back in 1964. First, they just thought they would be filming twice in Malibu, and they had downtime because of fog. Also in the winter, the lagoon’s water got down to 40 degrees. Thus, Bob Denver even put on a wet-suit under his costume! On summer days, the lagoon’s water was smelly and stagnant. In 1995, they actually transformed it into a parking lot for employees and therefore, drained the water.
