Gangs Of New York
Gangs of New York came to life due to the nonfiction book of the same name which described the life of 19th century New York City gangs. As it happens, these gangs were the source of the city’s major crime contributors and also came before the rise of the Mafia during the 20’s Prohibition period.

Goodfellas
Goodfellas is based on the book Wiseguy: Life in a Mafia Family however the film itself follows a more fictional version of events. New York city mobster, Henry Hill, and his association with the Lucchese crime family is the focus of the film. Hill worked for the Lucchese from 1955 to 1980 until he became an FBI informant in 1980. It was Hill’s testimony that allowed the FBI to capture about 50 convictions!
