Kim Novak

Did you know that Kim Novak was initially recruited by Columbia Pictures as a replacement of sorts for Rita Hayworth, who had been one of the greatest stars of the ‘40s and suffered a decline in popularity during the ‘50s? They also brought her in to compete with Marilyn Monroe of 20th Century Fox. Novak established her spot in the industry when she appeared in the Alfred Hitchcock film, Vertigo. Since the ‘60s, she only acted in sporadic bursts. She has been retired since the early ‘90s, which she definitely deserves. In 2010, she announced that she was battling breast cancer and later won over the condition.

Claudia Cardinale

Claudia Cardinale is an Italian-Tunisian actress whose career was kicked off after she ended up winning the “Most Beautiful Italian Girl in Tunisia” competition. Her prize was the chance to go to Italy! She had a hard time speaking in Italian since her parents only knew Sicilian, which was quite different. However, her beauty landed her numerous acting and modeling opportunities over the years. They decided to dub over her voice during her early days in the industry because of her French accent and raspy voice. She is outspoken about women’s rights and even became a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for the cause in the year 2000.
