Trying For New Roles
While he played Andy on Parks and Recreation and took care of his new family, Chris Pratt began auditioning for lead parts. He auditioned for Avatar and Star Trek, but even his charming charisma couldn’t land him the roles. However, Chris Pratt thought he knew what was holding him back. He began working to lose weight, thinking the extra pounds could have been keeping him from those lead parts. Then, he heard Marvel Studios was looking for an actor to star in an unusual film called Guardians of the Galaxy.

When director James Gunn spoke about the casting process in a Facebook chat, he said, “I thought [Chris] was overweight at the time, and he seemed like a comedy guy, and he didn’t think he was the right person for the role. But he came in…and 20 seconds into his audition I’m like, ‘That’s the guy.’” Once Guardians of the Galaxy hit theaters, it became a huge hit. Chris Pratt became an A-lister in Hollywood. Even more hits lined up for him! He starred in Jurassic World the next year and then The Magnificent Seven (2016). Chris Pratt kept up his hard work and didn’t gain back the weight.
