Crocodile Dundee
When 1986’s Crocodile Dundee came out, it was an instant hit around the globe! Did you know the original film was even nominated for an Oscar and won a Golden Globe? Was it Linda Kozlowski as Sue Charlton or the Australian crocodile hunter, played by Paul Hogan, that made the film so amazing? All we know is that this film was such a sensation that had to continue and make it a series.
Can you believe it’s been over 30 years since Crocodile Dundee first came out? That’s pretty wild! Since then, it’s become the single most iconic film from Australia. Naturally, Paul Hogan has risen to super-human status in Australia and become a sort of cultural ambassador of Australia to the world. The impact that Crocodile Dundee and its sequels left on the world can still be felt and seen today.
Back when the first film from the Crocodile Dundee series came out, it made around $328 million, but if you adjust the number for inflation, you come out with around $722 million! Now, that’s insane! It’s no wonder the film became the most successful movie that was imported in America’s box office history. Not too shabby.
Seriously, after Crocodile Dundee came out, the world seemed to become obsessed with Australia! It’s obvious the cultural fad had a lot to do with Paul Hogan and Linda Kozlowski’s hit movie. Back when they were deciding to film Crocodile Dundee, they settled on a $10 million budget in order to help launch what they hoped would be a movie that saw overseas success. Apparently, Paul Hogan came up with the concept, a story about an outdoorsy Australian visiting New York from a real man. He’s admitted that someone really inspired the character of Michael J. Dundee. Crocodile Dundee filmmakers also said they never paid this real life Dundee named Ansell. Apparently, when the man wanted to run something called “The Real Crocodile Dundee Adventure Tour” around his property and farm, Paramount Pictures threatened to sue. Ouch!
Anyway, we’re here to catch up with Crocodile Dundee stars from all of the films. It’s been quite some time since the first film and even some of the sequels.
