By 1978, he already started a real estate business in Manhattan. This was what would propel his wealth into the billions. He purchased a 50% stake in the Commodore Hotel, located beside Grand Central Terminal. In 1980, it was reopened under a different name: Grand Hyatt Hotel. Back then, there were other things that were occupying his time. In 1977, he and the Czech model Ivana Zelníčková got married. They had three children between them, but the marriage ended in divorce in 1992. It happened when the word got out that he had an extramarital affair with Marla Maples.
