It would appear to some that Margot Robbie just appeared overnight to take her place in Hollywood, but nothing could be farther from the truth. From B-movies to television, the young Australian actress fought her way up to becoming a Hollywood celebrity. It must feel great to be one of the top-paid actresses in the world after having humble beginnings. Check out the road she took below to see how hard she worked to get where she is.
Margot is Australian, but you wouldn’t know it from all the amazing accent work she does. She was born and reared on the Gold Coast of Queensland, Australia, and spent her childhood moving back and forth between living on the farm with her grandparents and living in the city with her mother. Margot, one of four kids, had to work extremely hard her entire life, which is why so many people are in awe of her incredible work ethic and dedication.
Childhood Dreams
As a little child, Margot had many aspirations, but one of them didn’t seem to be coming true, based on an interview she gave. She still desired entrepreneurship, but with a little innocent twist.
She had thought about double as a magician and becoming a hotel tycoon. She was obviously destined to be a businesswoman from the beginning. She also stated in the same interview that even if she ever leaves Hollywood, she would still like to work in movies, only behind the scenes.
Just a Rocker at Heart
Mom must have enjoyed Margot’s teenage years because the self-described metalhead decided to modify her appearance. While conducting publicity for a movie, Margot talked about this on one of the late-night talk shows she visited.
She became interested in metal at the age of 14, colored her hair black, and cut it with a razor. She would only wear band t-shirts and listen to the heaviest metal after that.
College Educated
Margot headed off to college like every good youngster who had just graduated from high school. She received acceptance to Somerset College, where she would later pursue a degree in drama.
She started to get parts in a number of independent films while still in college before finally starting her career on an Australian soap opera. Her professors still have fond memories of her, and current students see her as somewhat of a legend.
She Works Hard for Her Family
Margot put forth a lot of effort to support her family while climbing the film ladder and throughout her time in high school. At one point, young Margot worked three jobs, one of which involved manufacturing foot-long subs for the fast food company Subway.
She worked as a bartender and housekeeper while doing this, but before her high school years were up, she would pursue other careers as well. She’s proven to be able to work hard for her money.
First Credit
Although her involvement in an Australian serial series gave her her big break in 2008, her first film credit was in fact from the year 2007. The young lead in the Australian B-movie thriller I.C.U. was played by Margot.
Although we’re not convinced it completely lived up to the hype, the film was marketed as Rear Window for the contemporary era. Even with this poorly written script and her wearing her natural hair color, Margot was just 17 when this movie was released, but you could still tell she had potential.
Surfing for Clarity
No matter where she is, Margot enjoys spending her free time in the ocean catching waves. She has always enjoyed surfing, even when she was still living next door. The paparazzi frequently photograph her at the beach.
Margot had stated in an interview that getting up early to catch some excellent swells was the best thing she could do for her mental clarity and wellbeing.
Guest Star?
Margot was chosen for a guest appearance on the Australian soap drama Neighbors in 2008. Originally intended for just a few episodes, the public responded well to her and her character, and before long, her brief appearance transformed into a part that was contracted.
The audience was able to perceive what we all do: that Margot exudes genuine charm and charisma. As a result, she had the biggest break of her career to yet.
Everyone Starts On a Soap Right?
There are many wonderful stars in the United States who we enjoy seeing on the big screen who first appeared in soap operas, and it seems that this is also the case in Australia.
Margot continued to portray Donna Freedman’s struggles for the following three years as her guest role was extended. We are very delighted she decided to leave the role and pursue her dreams in Hollywood.
Coming to America
Margot continued honing her skills while portraying Donna Freedman. She hired instructors and worked on her American accent because she understood where her future lay. Finally, she relocated to the United States in 2011 and started going to casting calls.
Executives at one of the major studios quickly recognized her promise and offered her a position in a brand-new show for the fall season. Her major break would land her on yet another television program that exact same year.
First US Gig
She received her major break in the US during the same year on an A.B.C. – Pan Am television program. The program featured the lives of pilots and flight attendants and was set in the 1960s. An excellent cast was partnered with Margot.
Unfortunately, the idea simply didn’t work, and the show was cancelled after just one season. Margot was still able to enter Hollywood and gain significant attention as a result, though.
Hockey? Check
Hockey is one of her many passions. She played a little field hockey not just in Australia but also in the United States. She claimed that even though she wasn’t the best player, she still adored the game.
She frequently attends games wearing a Rangers jersey and cheering them on with a pal. It appears that the New York club has a rather devoted supporter, whether she is present in New York or not.
Who Doesn’t Love James Franco?
The actress expressed her affection for James Franco before she received her big break. She even made the choice to attend Halloween in a character from his writing. She even contacted the renowned actor in an effort to accurately portray his Spring Breakers role.
He was unaware of her identity because, regrettably, she hadn’t yet established herself. She nonetheless took first place in the neighborhood costume contest, so she obviously did something well.
Martin Scorsese Casts Her
Margot would land the job in 2013 that would thrust her into the spotlight and pave the way for a variety of future chances. She would appear in this film alongside Jonah Hill and Leonardo DiCaprio.
She not only had the opportunity to work with such talented actors, but Martin Scorsese was also the director. She received several positive reviews for her performance as Leo’s girlfriend. After this role, it appeared as though anything was possible.
And the Award Goes To…
She would garner not just the attention of the critics but also numerous nominations for prizes with her role. She received a nomination for a BAFTA and an MTV Movie Award in addition to her Empire Award.
When she first came, the studios could obviously tell that she had the “It” factor, and the decision-makers on the panels for these awards were completely blown away. They were accurate.
First Superhero Audition
Multiple superheroes have been played by many actors. It should not be shocking that Margot nearly played several heroes in a time when getting a role in a big-budget movie signifies success.
She is well known for playing the iconic anti-hero Harley Quinn. She might have, however, also been the Invisible Woman in the most recent Fantastic Four film. That undoubtedly would have resulted in a different movie.
Finds Love on a Set
She received a role in the 2014 film Suite Francaise, one of her lesser-known productions. She didn’t receive much praise for the movie, but she discovered something greater on the set. Margot has spoken about her ideal partner in interviews, and she was able to find him here.
Tom Ackerley, who was hired as the assistant director, also met his true match. While her star started to soar to new heights, they dated for a while.
Co-stars with Will Smith
Two years after The Wolf of Wall Street, she would star in her next major motion picture. Margot was chosen to play a pickpocket in the movie Focus with Will Smith, another renowned performer. Margot, who may be described as a method actor, spent time being knowledgeable about her role.
Although she has never used the ability, acquiring it has taught her to always be vigilant. However, when it came to her representation, she undoubtedly kept the critics on their toes, and they once more praised her performance.
Me Tarzan, You Jane
Despite the positive reviews Focus received, her subsequent movie received a little less attention. The well-known tale of the orphan raised by gorillas was given a fresh perspective in the movie The Legend of Tarzan.
Margot had to put in a lot of physical endurance work for the film, and the producers even wanted her to trim down a bit. Margot would respond and eventually persuade them to support her. Though the talks for this clearly went in her favor, the movie may not have gone as planned.
Connoisseur
Margot appears to be a typical every day woman who appreciates the same things that we all do. She enjoys playing hockey, going off-road on a four-wheeler, and enjoying a few drinks with her buddies.
She acknowledged to a People reporter during a press junket for Tarzan that she and her friends can down a couple beers quite quickly. She has an earthy aura since she wants to work and play hard.
Walking the Aisle
She and her director love began dating after meeting on the set of Suite Francaise and eventually got married in 2016 at Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia, following a very lovely but private wedding.
Given that they planned it for the winter, when there would be new snow outside the structure, it was exceptionally lovely.
Comic Books Here She Comes
She might have made her biggest movie with Suicide Squad. She was able to film as a spin-off, and it also made her known to comic book enthusiasts all over the world.
Many of those fans had waited years to see this actor take on the renowned Harley Quinn role. It’s a good thing she did it justice because there will soon be a sequel to the successful 2016 movie.
Second Career – Tattoo Artist
Margot considered switching careers while filming Suicide Squad, so she ordered a tattoo gun online. With friends and even the crew, she started training after becoming really intrigued. She even convinced David Ayer, the director, to let her use him as a practice subject.
Though the career did not succeed, she announced her retirement on a British chat program four years later. Now the people she tattooed have unique artwork.
On-Set Prankster
If you keep up with the industry, you’ve probably heard about Jared Leto’s set antics while Suicide Squad was being filmed. One of these practical jokes was played on Margot. Giving out truly odd gifts, like the rat he gave Margot, was one of his favorite pastimes.
At first, Margot thought this was a bit much, but she ultimately began to cherish her talent. But ultimately, she had to part with the rat that settled down with Guillermo del Toro.
E.V. Ambassador
Margot cares a lot about the environment. She had the opportunity to meld her love of driving and her commitment to the environment while filming Suicide Squad. Nissan reached her at this time and wanted her to represent their line of electric vehicles.
She was required to tape numerous advertisements for the campaign advocating the use of the Nissan EV. Margot even participated in one of them, which, given her love of driving, we believe may have been her favorite.
Skating Into History
It’s challenging to tell a genuine narrative, especially one as well-known and prominent in pop culture as Tonya Harding. Margot decided to produce the movie in addition to acting in it because she wanted to push herself.
She underwent considerable training in order to provide a realistic experience. I, Tonya was ultimately well received, and a new generation began to remember Tonya Harding’s story.
Complicated Moves & VFX
Although Margot had extensive training to perform some of the skating in the film I, Tonya, some moves just require years of practice to master. Professional skaters were brought on set to ensure the movements looked good.
But you have to admit that she appeared to perform all the movements. That was made possible by some incredible VFX magic. They captured Margot performing the actions on a blue screen, then they took her face and slapped it on the skater’s face.
Fan Letter
Margot believed she could fulfill one of her self-promises following the success of I, Tonya. She pledged early on that whenever she became successful, she would write to Quentin Tarantino and convey her wish to collaborate with him. She had long adored the filmmaker.
It so happened that Margot would make the ideal female lead for Tarantino’s upcoming movie, which was looking for one. In order for Margot to play Sharon Tate in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, the necessary arrangements were made.
Once Upon a Time
Margot is reunited with her Wolf of Wall Street co-star Leonardo DiCaprio in the film, which is set in 1969 Hollywood. Despite the numerous stories regarding how Margot won the position, Tarantino claimed that she was always destined to play the part.
It was quite difficult to capture the essence of Sharon Tate’s sad life on screen, but Margot did a fantastic job and earned a lot of positive feedback. She never ceases to astound us.
Highest-Paid Actress?
Hollywood has full of lists, but Forbes’ list of highest-paid female actors is one of the most prestigious. Six years after getting her big break, in 2019, Margot made it onto this list.
She was ranked eighth out of the top 10, where she was surrounded by celebrities like Scarlett Johansson and Charlize Theron. Not too bad for an Australian farm girl.
Brother & Sister Stunts
There were numerous Robbies on the set for the subsequent portrayal of the deranged anti-hero Harley Quinn. In fact, many of the feats would be performed by her brother, a Hollywood stuntman.
They got to spend a bit more time together, which was excellent for the two of them. Additionally, it continued Lachlan Robbie’s history of work on Washington, D.C. projects. He contributed to Aquaman and Black Lightning as well.
Tackles the Controversy
There would undoubtedly be a book and movie created on the Fox harassment incidents in the wake of the significant backlash. Margot playing a part in the movie seemed appropriate given her staunch support of feminist causes.
Megyn Kelly’s tale and the activities of Fox News behind closed doors were covered in the bombshell. Like the rest of the actors, Margot undoubtedly contributed to the success of the film.
Pitches and Swings
Margot wanted to try her hand at proposing a movie because her star and reputation were growing, and she knew exactly the subject she wanted to undertake. She therefore used her experience as a producer to propose Birds of Prey.
Given how popular Harley Quinn has been with moviegoers, it was almost a given that the studio would approve her potential project. Indeed, they carried it out.
Back to Harley
So how would an all-female cast movie do in the world of comic books? Margot undoubtedly believed this, which is why she fought so hard to have the project approved.
Sadly, the movie didn’t perform quite as well as the studio had anticipated. Even so, the movie was a huge hit with comic book fans, who are already clamoring for more Harley.
Producer Too?!
In 2017, Margot established a production firm in collaboration with a number of different individuals. Many excellent films have been produced by LuckyChap Entertainment. I, Tonya was their most successful production to date.
Even though they have collaborated on a number of other films and the Dollface Hulu original series, it appears that Margot wants to grow her business. We are interested to see what projects she decides to bring to the big screen in the future.
Hopping Down the Bunny Trail
Margot revealed one of her extremely personal secrets in a frank podcast interview. Margot enjoys sleeping with a plush rabbit. That small stuffy has been with her since she was a newborn, which may sound unusual to some.
Evidently, once she is asleep, her husband wants to get rid of it since he thinks it’s a little silly. Because she still clings to it every night, it must not be functional.
Idolizing Blanchett
For Margot, 2019 seems to be the year of candid interviews. She highlighted the actresses she looks up to the most in one of several interviews she’s given to online outlets.
She holds Cate Blanchett in high regard. She respects Cate for managing her personal and professional lives independently and avoiding the spotlight unless she wants to. The fact that Cate is really skilled helps. We believe she is a really decent actor to aspire to be like.
Loves the Planet
Margot has committed herself to a number of outstanding causes that work to protect the environment and to improve the climate. The Australian chapter of Greenpeace is one of her largest clients. She makes an effort to lead a purposeful, conscious life.
She even makes an effort to eat vegetarian for one or two days, but this is difficult for someone who enjoys a delicious steak. I suppose she tries. She is even more endearing because of her genuine concern for the subject, which is always good to see from someone with her influence.
Return of the Quinn
What will Margot do now? Suicide Squad 2 will, if everything goes according to plan, be another dive into the bizarre world of Harley Quinn. Production on the film is expected to start in 2021, according to reports.
Who knows when the movie will actually arrive in theaters given the situation with the current pandemic? When that time comes, individuals who adore her persona and the setting that D.C. has carefully prepared for her will be greatly anticipated, and Margot will undoubtedly give a standout performance.
