It made sense that hunters had killed the moose’s mother and she ran to find protection. The calf landed up on the farm’s property and was too tired to continue. But even worse than just being tired was that she was also injured, and that’s what truly moved Plucas. He told The Dodo, “The first sight of her was heartbreaking.”

Now that the moose had no-one to fend for her, Plucas made a bold decision. The moose wasn’t just injured, she was petrified, and even worse, she was still vulnerable. He decided that he was going to take care of her before any sort of predators reached her.
