In Yellowstone National Park, you will find gorgeously colored hot springs, but you should not get in them no matter what. After all, that might just be the last thing you ever do. First of all, they are generally scalding hot with a temperature of 200 degrees Fahrenheit or even higher. For reference, a hot tub is usually only 105 degrees or below. Bacteria also thrives in temperatures like this and actually lend the pools the pretty colors. Isn’t it both disgusting and amazing that each color here comes from a particular bacteria? The National Park has signs and paths that indicate whether an area is safe or not, so always make sure to look around first!
