Jim contacted the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals, and the team worked quickly to get Teddy into their care. The team has been warned that this will be a difficult assignment. Teddy was still wary of humans, and while it’s unclear how he ended up in the river, there are plausible explanations. One theory is that he was hit by a car, injured, and abandoned by his owner.

Another reason was that his owner no longer wanted him, so he put him in a cage and drowned him. Jim couldn’t get the thought out of his head about the dog’s cage and the single blanket and weight he discovered inside. Teddy was chosen as a name because of his cuddly appearance. Teddy would have to regain his trust in people’s cuddly behavior, but that was a work in progress.
