The greatest challenge these bear cubs faced was deciding what to do with them. Their mother was no longer with them, and bears are not among the best national pets. Even so, the fishermen who had been heartbroken to see them trembling and terrified had matured. The fishermen’s decision was not easy, but they determined that the cubs needed to be returned to land and left to fend for themselves. Hopefully, their mother had taught them enough survival skills! There was always the possibility that they would be reunited with their mother.

The fishermen had the brilliant idea of dropping off their new friends in an ideal location. They didn’t want to be too far away from their mother. They just needed to figure out which island she was going to end up on. She might return for her children if they could bring the bears back to that island. They surveyed the surrounding isles and made their best guess about where the mother had last been seen. The odds were stacked against them, just like in the rescue, but they knew they had to take a chance.
