The Communications Workers of America estimates that 1,300 people will be affected by the store closures. According to CNN, the company wants to provide them with remote work opportunities. The store closures came just two years after the company announced plans to open over a thousand new ones.

The company declared bankruptcy and announced that it would hold liquidation sales as it prepares to close 230 stores in the summer of 2020. In a press release, CEO Steve Becker stated: “The prolonged and unexpected closures of our stores in response to COVID-19 has had severe consequences on our business.”
