Getting Into School

Michael didn’t have much on his academic record when he tried to enroll in Briarcrest. In the film, the football coach uses a religious appeal to convince school administrators to admit him. In real life, the coach did fight for Michael, but the principal forced him to do a home-school program for a few months to raise his grades before he was officially admitted.

Different Timeline

Naturally, the film is on a different timeline than in real life. Fitting the entire story into a 2-hour long movie was a difficult feat. Some of the timelines, therefore, had to be adjusted. For example, in the movie, Michael is picked up on the side of the road and then joins the family. This didn’t really happen in real life, they saw him on the street and didn’t stop.
