The weaponry on it was just as impressive. This sub came with ten 21-inch torpedo launching tubes. Six of these set toward the prow, while the remaining four are at the stern. The Stickleback came equipped with weapons that could be used on the surface for both offense and defense. There was also a five-inch deck gun and two cannons: an Oerlikon 20mm and a Bofors 40mm. They came in handy at times.

Nothing Saved It From Its Fate

On the very first day of 1945, the Stickleback was launched. It became an official part of the Navy in March of the same year. Work on its final fitting was finished by the end of May. Commander Lawrence G. Bernard was the first skipper of the vessel. Sadly, even he could not save it from its tragic fate.
