Too Hot To Handle

All exterior shots were filmed in Simi Valley, California. Naturally, everyone always comments on the beauty of the place with its gorgeous clear skies most days and spacious land. Despite its beauty, the heat presented quite the problem. Now, it wasn’t like the cast could wear appropriate outfits for the hot weather. Remember, they were in period pieces, meaning the women wore extra layers. It got so hot that Alison Arngrim even passed out on the very first day they began shooting and so did an assistant director! Hopefully they kept everyone well hydrated after that incident.

Back in the day Michael Landon has quite the figure, and this star loved to show it off, even on camera. On his other show, Bonanza he was prone to showing off his body. However, fans could guarantee on Little House on the Prairie that every injury his character endured meant Landon would remove his shirt for full cinematic effect. Some claimed he would go commando too. We have no proof as to the accuracy of those rumors though.
