Although Sasnauskas was quite touched to see his dog Mack so closely bonded with the fawn, he didn’t want her to become too attached to Mack. Eventually, Mack wanted to let the fawn back into the wild. After all, that’s where she really belonged.

Typically, the fawn’s herd would return to the same area during the evenings. Thus, Sasnauskas wanted to release her back once she regained her strength fully. He hoped to set the dawn free to rejoin her true family, since no one could replace her actual mother.
