A compelling storyline indeed, The Promise focused on a love triangle just before the Armenian Genocide. Clearly, things more important than romance comes up. Anyway, audiences seemed to mostly enjoy the film, but the critics hated it. The production companies Survival Pictures and Phoenix Pictures walked away with a loss of $94 to $102 million.
