The Current Was Too Strong
When our mother bear chose to swim with her cubs in Lake Vygozero, she may have underestimated the current. Although the lake is large, we can assume she had already made the journey. On this fateful day, however, the lake current was too strong. Despite her best efforts, she was unable to keep her cubs. She wasn’t loosening or shaking them off. The current’s strength forced the family to split up. It couldn’t have been easy to abandon her cubs, but swimming back to save them would have been impossible.
