The cage appeared to be a vehicle for transporting animals. He looked into it to see if he could learn more about what cage was used for. Perhaps the beaver used the cage as a safe haven, or perhaps they used an abandoned cage to house a few groundhogs. Jim’s scenarios continued to play out in his mind. It wasn’t, however, what he was considering. Jim’s life would be forever changed by what he witnessed.

Surprisingly, Jim came across a beaver who came over to see what he was up to. He followed the beaver to the riverbed, where it eventually came to a halt. He had no idea what he was doing following the beaver, but he felt obligated to do it. Only a few feet away from the beaver was a fighting animal. Jim recognized it as the same mound he’d seen before.
