The forests and soil had become increasingly humid, and the soil had become softer. Jim took a step forward and noticed that the creature was much larger than a beaver. It certainly wasn’t a beaver. The large creature appeared to be stuck in the mud, and Jim acted instinctively. He had to help the bad critter out, but one thing remained on his mind: he had no idea what he was up against.

Whatever it was, Jim was confident he’d be able to extract it. He couldn’t bear leaving a helpless animal. If this was a beaver, Jim assumed it would be fiercely territorial. Even though his gut told him it wasn’t a giant beaver, he needed to be aware of those teeth in case he decided to free himself and chomp him like a salad.
