Even though Sasnauskas was an animal lover and raised dogs and cats, he was not clear on how one should care for a deer. While speaking with The Dodo, he explained, “I had to do some Internet search and reading to be able to understand how to [raise] a fawn…get up at night to feed her every four hours, and clean her after.”

In order to help her injured leg, he created a special splint from an oatmeal box. With this splint, she slowly began walking and it was obvious her spirits were also lifted.
